SAEDNEWS: Iran warned that targeting peaceful biological facilities infringes the fundamental rights of member states to pursue scientific development and threatens the integrity of the global disarmament regime.
Iran has strongly condemned recent Israeli attacks on its biological and public health infrastructure, calling them a “clear violation of international law” and a threat to global biosecurity.
Speaking at the Working Group on Strengthening the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), Heidar Ali Balouji, head of disarmament and arms control at the Foreign Ministry, denounced “deliberate” Israeli strikes on vaccine production centers, pharmaceutical facilities, and public health institutions in Iran.
“These attacks not only undermine our national public health capacity but also jeopardize regional and global biosecurity,” Balouji said, urging member states to take a firm stance against violations of the Convention’s core principles.
Balouji welcomed the accession of two new members to the BWC and emphasized the importance of universal adherence to the treaty, particularly in the Middle East. He warned that targeting peaceful biological facilities infringes on the fundamental rights of member states to pursue scientific development and threatens the integrity of the global disarmament regime.
Iran called on the international community to “unequivocally condemn” the attacks and hold those responsible accountable.
