SAEDNEWS: The Arab League has denounced Israel’s plan to reoccupy the Gaza Strip as a flagrant act of war against all Arab nations, warning it will escalate genocide against Palestinians and destabilize the entire Middle East.
An emergency session of the Arab League in Cairo on Sunday branded Israel’s scheme to seize full control of Gaza as “a blatant act of aggression” and a direct assault on the sovereignty and security of every Arab state.
In its final communiqué, the League demanded urgent international pressure to halt Israel’s genocidal war and starvation tactics targeting Gaza’s besieged population.
The statement condemned “the decisions and plans of the Israeli occupation government to impose full military control over the Gaza Strip, displace the Palestinian people, and commit crimes of aggression, genocide, and ethnic cleansing in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem (al-Quds).”
It stressed these actions violate international law, threaten political and economic stability across the Arab world, and endanger peace in the entire region.
The outrage followed Israel’s security cabinet approval of prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to fully occupy Gaza City, a move that has sparked global condemnation from governments and rights bodies.
Backing Egyptian-Qatari mediation for a ceasefire, the Arab League urged the international community—particularly the United States—to compel Israel to end its aggression, lift its illegal occupation, and cease its crimes against the Palestinian people.
Four of the five permanent UN Security Council members—Russia, China, the UK, and France—opposed the Israeli plan during an emergency meeting, leaving the US isolated in its support for Tel Aviv.
Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative Dmitry Polyanskiy denounced the decision as “a gross violation of international law” showing “blatant disregard for the appeals of the international community.” Moscow accused Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar of hypocrisy for concealing the plan while speaking at the UN.
China’s UN envoy Fu Cong called Gaza “an integral part of Palestinian territory” and warned against “the illusion of military supremacy.” He demanded Israel halt its occupation scheme, open border crossings, and lift aid restrictions.
The UK’s James Kariuk and France’s Jay Dharmadhikari also condemned the decision, warning it would deepen Palestinian suffering and contribute nothing to Israel’s security. France reiterated its “firm opposition to any plan for the occupation, annexation, and settlement of the Gaza Strip.”
In contrast, US Acting Deputy Representative Dorothy Shea defended Israel’s “right to defend itself” and blamed Hamas for the ongoing war, dismissing calls for an immediate ceasefire.
Since October 2023, Israel’s onslaught has killed more than 61,400 Palestinians, reduced Gaza to rubble, and pushed the enclave to the brink of famine. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former war minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity, while the International Court of Justice is hearing a genocide case against Israel.
