SAEDNEWS: The US is “preparing options” for strikes on alleged drug traffickers inside Venezuela, NBC has reported, citing unnamed American officials.

US Considers Strategic Options Amid Rising Tensions in Venezuela

In recent weeks, the waters off the coast of Venezuela have witnessed deadly incidents, as Washington reportedly sank at least three boats alleged to be carrying narcotics, resulting in the deaths of at least 17 people. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has denied any involvement in drug trafficking, describing the attacks as part of a broader attempt by the U.S. to undermine his government.

Reports suggest that the U.S. could escalate military action in Venezuela “within weeks,” though such measures have not yet received approval from President Donald Trump, according to sources cited by RT. The discussions in Washington reportedly focus on drone strikes targeting drug laboratories and key figures within trafficking networks.

Some officials within the Trump administration are reportedly frustrated that the recent deployment of U.S. warships and aircraft to the Caribbean, along with attacks on suspected drug-carrying vessels, has not weakened Maduro’s hold on power or provoked a major response. A senior administration official told NBC that Trump is “prepared to use every element of American power to stop drugs from flooding into our country and to bring those responsible to justice.”

Meanwhile, U.S.-Venezuelan communications have continued through unspecified Middle Eastern intermediaries, with Maduro allegedly offering concessions in a bid to ease tensions.

Addressing the UN General Assembly on Friday, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto condemned the U.S. for the “illegal and completely immoral military threat” and emphasized Caracas’s determination to resist “imperialist aggression.” He called on the international community for support, declaring:

"Venezuela will not yield to pressure or threats. We remain firm in defending our sovereignty and our right to live in peace, free from foreign interference."

This unfolding situation highlights the high-stakes geopolitical dynamics in the region, offering observers a stark view of international diplomacy, military posturing, and the challenges of maintaining national sovereignty in the face of global powers.
