Pezeshkian further lauded the senior Iranian commander for his efforts to forge unity within the country and region. He said Lt. Gen. Soleimani was a national figure who simultaneously supported the greater Islamic nation with his non-partisan views. Pezeshkian explained, “Martyr Soleimani’s path was the path of unity and empathy. He wouldn’t fight with anyone and wouldn’t exclude anyone. There was no sense of division in any of his messages and words.”

General Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), and his companions were assassinated near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020, in a US drone strike authorized by then-US President Donald Trump. The attack occurred while General Soleimani was on an official visit to the Iraqi capital.

His family asked the Iranian president-elect to continue Iran’s policy of supporting resistance movements during his term in office. They also requested that Pezeshkian make efforts to fulfill the martyred Iranian commander’s dream of bridging social gaps in the country. Pezeshkian assured that his administration would remain committed to the ideals of unity and empathy exemplified by General Soleimani, striving to address the nation's issues with the same spirit of inclusion and rapport.

Pezeshkian's admiration for Soleimani's unifying efforts, both within Iran and across the region, underscores his commitment to continuing the late commander's legacy. By invoking Soleimani's approach, Pezeshkian aims to foster a sense of national and regional unity that transcends political and social divides.
