Maduro Dismisses U.S. Efforts to Assume 'Executive Role' in Venezuelan Affairs

According to SAEDNEWS, In a recent interview, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro criticized the United States for its ongoing policy of interference in the sovereign affairs of other nations, specifically accusing Washington of attempting "to become the executive branch of Venezuela."

"I absolutely reject the US attempt to become the executive branch of Venezuela or of any other country in the world," Maduro stated, condemning what he described as "the imperialistic policy of interference." He further advised the U.S. to focus on its "numerous domestic problems" instead of meddling in other countries’ affairs, according to a report from TASS.

Maduro also commented on U.S. President Joe Biden’s remarks regarding re-election in Venezuela, noting that Biden’s statement was contradicted by the Department of State just 30 minutes later. He posed a rhetorical question: “Who exactly governs the US?”

Regarding public comments from Colombian President Gustavo Petro, Maduro expressed his intent to refrain from engaging in "microphone diplomacy," implying a desire to avoid sensationalized public disputes.

The backdrop to these comments includes the presidential election held in Venezuela on July 28, where Maduro was reported to have received support from 5,150,092 voters, equating to 51.2% of the ballots counted by the National Electoral Council. His main opponent, Edmundo Gonzalez of far-right parties, garnered 4,445,978 votes, or 44.2%. Opposition leader Corina Machado has contested the election results, alleging fraud and declaring Gonzalez the winner.

Maduro’s presidential victory has been recognized by several countries, including Russia, Bolivia, Honduras, Iran, China, Cuba, and Nicaragua. However, several other nations, including Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, and Chile, have refused to acknowledge the election results. In response, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry has announced plans to recall its diplomats from these countries and has called for reciprocal actions.
