SAEDNEWS|: Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani in a telephone call received from Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani discussed the latest developments in the region regarding Gaza ceasefire.
According to SAEDNEWS, In a phone conversation held on Thursday night, Qatar's Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Iran's Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani exchanged views on the current situation in Gaza and ongoing mediation efforts to establish a ceasefire in the beleaguered Gaza Strip.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement highlighting that the two diplomats reviewed bilateral relations and explored avenues to strengthen cooperation between their countries. The talks specifically focused on the pressing conditions in the besieged Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, alongside recent advancements in joint mediation efforts aimed at concluding the ongoing conflict.
The two officials also underscored the importance of de-escalation in the region.
Simultaneously, the Qatari capital, Doha, hosted a quadrilateral meeting involving the United States, Israel, Egypt, and Qatar. This gathering aimed to advance discussions focused on achieving a ceasefire in Gaza. Notably, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has stated that it would not send a representative to this meeting, as it seeks to evaluate a plan put forth by U.S. President Joe Biden.
Since October 7, Israel has been conducting a military campaign against Gaza following an unprecedented operation carried out by Hamas in response to alleged atrocities against the Palestinian population. The Israeli government has imposed a complete siege on Gaza, cutting off essential supplies such as fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians residing in the area.
