Iran's Handwoven Carpet Exports Surpass $13 Million in Just Four Months

According to SAEDNEWS, Iran's handwoven carpet industry is experiencing a promising resurgence, with exports registering a six percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to Mohammadreza Zare Borzeshi. This trend highlights the country’s long-standing tradition of carpet weaving, which continues to flourish even amid challenging economic conditions.

In his remarks, Zare Borzeshi emphasized the upward trajectory in carpet production within Iran, noting an impressive 11 percent growth recorded during the previous Iranian calendar year, which spanned from March 21, 2023, to March 20, 2024. This growth reflects the dedication and craftsmanship of local artisans who play an integral role in maintaining Iran's rich cultural heritage.

Statistics from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) reveal that Iran exported approximately $11.5 million worth of handwoven carpets during the first four months of the last Iranian calendar year, running from March 21 to July 22, 2023. This robust export figure underscores the significance of handwoven carpets not only as cultural artifacts but also as important contributors to the national economy.

Zare Borzeshi further noted that the synergy between increased production and rising exports can generate substantial employment opportunities while also bringing in vital foreign currency. This dual benefit is crucial for Iran's economy, as it seeks to diversify its revenue streams and enhance the livelihoods of those involved in this traditional craft.

The encouraging growth in the handwoven carpet sector not only bodes well for artisans and local economies but also positions Iran as a key player in the global carpet market. As the country continues to innovate and expand its exports, the handwoven carpet industry stands as a testament to the enduring appeal and artistry of Iranian craftsmanship.
