SAEDNEWS: President says he dropped out as he didn't want the Democrats to be distracted from beating Trump.
According to SAEDNEWS, In his first interview since exiting the presidential election race, U.S. President Joe Biden elaborated on the reasons behind his decision. Speaking on CBS News Sunday Morning, he emphasized that his withdrawal was aimed at allowing the Democratic Party to focus on its primary objective: defeating former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
Biden expressed concern over the potential impact of his candidacy on the prospects of Democratic candidates in Congress, stating, "The polls we had shown that it was a neck-and-neck race, would have been down to the wire [...] A number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was going to hurt them in their races."
The president also noted that his continued presence in the race could become a distraction from the essential election issues. "I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic. You'd be interviewing me about 'Why did [former Speaker of the House of Representatives] Nancy Pelosi say...,' rather than focusing on the actual campaign," Biden explained.
Biden officially withdrew from the re-election campaign in July and subsequently endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate. This decision was influenced by significant pressure from party members urging him to step aside.
During the interview, Biden reaffirmed that the primary motivation for his withdrawal was to protect democratic values and ensure the defeat of Trump, who is the Republican nominee. "I thought it was important," Biden stated. "Although it’s a great honor being president, I have an obligation to the country to do what is most important, and that is, we must, we must, we must defeat Trump.”
