SAEDNEWS: Microsoft claimed that hackers affiliated with China have infiltrated hundreds of U.S. government agencies and companies.
According to Saednews, citing The Guardian, the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is among 400 organizations that have been infiltrated by Chinese hackers.
Microsoft claimed that “Chinese government-affiliated hacking groups exploited security vulnerabilities in SharePoint document-sharing servers to infiltrate hundreds of U.S. government agencies and organizations, including those related to the U.S. nuclear weapons facilities.”
According to the Dutch cybersecurity company Eye Security, so far 400 government entities, companies, and other groups have been attacked, and the number is expected to rise. The company added that most targets are located in the United States.
Bloomberg reported that the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration, responsible for overseeing the country’s nuclear arsenal, was among the targeted entities.
Microsoft named three Chinese government-backed hacking groups as responsible for these cyberattacks.
This announcement came as the Financial Times reported that Amazon has shut down its AI lab in Shanghai amid escalating geopolitical tensions between Washington and Beijing, and the consulting firm McKinsey has also halted AI-related activities in China.
Microsoft and IBM have also scaled back their R&D projects in China in recent months.
U.S. security officials have launched extensive investigations to examine the scope of this breach, while Microsoft continues to provide technical recommendations to the vulnerable entities.
