China and U.S. Discuss Ways to "Remove Obstacles" in Diplomatic Relations

According to SAEDNEWS, In a bid to stabilize diplomatic relations, China's top diplomat, Wang Yi, held a meeting with U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Beijing on Tuesday. Their discussions come amid a backdrop of rocky relations between the two largest economies, with both sides emphasizing the importance of maintaining open channels of communication.

Wang expressed optimism that this new round of dialogue could help to enhance bilateral relations by following what he called the "San Francisco vision." He stated, "I hope that our talks this time can overcome distractions, remove obstacles," and enable the relationship to develop in a "stable, healthy and sustainable" manner.

Sullivan's three-day visit to Beijing marks his fifth meeting with Wang, the last of which took place in January in Bangkok, Thailand. This series of discussions follows a significant interaction in San Francisco between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden, where the two leaders engaged in "candid" exchanges and outlined a path for future relations.

In his capacity as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Wang stressed that a key objective for their current talks would be to carry forward the spirit established by the two presidents in San Francisco. He reaffirmed the overarching goal for the bilateral relationship: "mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation."

Similarly, Sullivan highlighted the need for collaboration between the United States and China, stating that both economies should work together in areas that yield mutual benefits while steering clear of "competition" that could escalate into "conflict."

As both nations navigate their complex relationship, this latest meeting signifies a concerted effort to align their interests and address challenges that have arisen in recent years. The outcomes of these discussions could be crucial in shaping the future of China-U.S. relations as they endeavor to foster cooperation and avoid confrontation amidst a challenging international landscape.
