Saednews: A mother, accused of selling her 5-day-old baby for less than $3,500, stated that she intended to use the money for her own cosmetic nose surgery. The 33-year-old woman, whose name was not mentioned in local reports, was arrested before undergoing surgery in Dagestan, southern Russia.
According to the community service of Saadnews, citing Akhbar Online, it is reported that the mother told a friend she did not want to keep the baby. She apparently arranged for a couple to buy the baby five days after birth on April 25th. The police said the mother handed over her son to the couple on the day of discharge from the hospital in exchange for a 10% down payment.
Weeks later, the couple required medical treatment at a hospital, and the doctors requested the baby's birth certificate. They asked the biological mother for it, and she allegedly provided it in exchange for another $1,700 on May 26th. According to reports, she told the couple she intended to use the money for her cosmetic nose surgery. Before the couple could pay off the remaining debt, the police arrested all three suspects for human trafficking. Authorities stated, "The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Dagestan has opened a criminal case against a 33-year-old woman residing in the city of Kaspiysk." According to the investigator, a series of investigative actions are currently underway to confirm the circumstances of the crime and establish evidence of the suspect’s criminal involvement. Russia has a black market for newborns. Three cases of baby sales were reported in 2019, including a 23-year-old single mother who allegedly tried to sell her one-week-old baby for $13,700. A year earlier, a mother was accused of posting an ad offering to sell her son to organ traffickers.
