SAEDNEWS: Mohun Bagan Super Giants, who are scheduled to travel to Iran for their second AFC Champions League group-stage fixture against Sepahan SC on September 30, has requested Asian Football Confederation to shift the venue.
All Mohun Bagan players have been granted e-visas for Iran, yet the Indian club is considering facing Sepahan on neutral ground instead.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has rejected the request, leaving the ultimate decision with Mohun Bagan: to travel to Iran or forfeit the match.
Skipping the fixture could carry serious consequences. Last season, when Mohun Bagan declined to travel to Iran, the AFC refrained from issuing sanctions but recorded forfeits for the club’s remaining group-stage matches.
This season, the situation is different, and the AFC may adopt a stricter approach. The final outcome will depend on ongoing discussions between the club and the governing body, making Mohun Bagan’s next move a critical moment in the team’s international campaign.
