According to Saed News’ social affairs service, archaeologists made a rare discovery while excavating an ancient cemetery in Egypt. In the pelvis of a woman who lived more than 3,000 years ago, they found a tumor containing teeth. The tumor, a bony mass with two teeth, is recognized as the oldest known example of a teratoma. Teratomas are a rare type of tumor that typically form in the ovaries or testes.
The recent discovery took place in a New Kingdom-era cemetery in Amarna, Egypt, which was established around 1345 BCE. This teratoma is the oldest known specimen and represents the first ancient case ever discovered in Africa.
