SAEDNEWS: The photo below is from this trip, where Abdollah Qajar captured sites like the Aliabad stone mine, roadside caravanserais, Hazrat Masoumeh Guesthouse and Shrine courtyard, and newly built roads and bridges.
According to the History and Culture section of Saed News, 138 years ago, in 1886 (1265 in the Iranian calendar), Naser al-Din Shah Qajar instructed his court photographer, Mirza Abdullah Qajar, to document the “newly constructed buildings” commissioned by the Shah and Amin al-Soltan—stretching from the shrine of Hazrat Abdul Azim in Ray to the shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh in Qom. As Abdullah Qajar himself wrote, the photographs were to be presented “in the honor of His Majesty.” The photo featured in this article comes from that very journey and mission. During this trip, Abdullah Qajar captured images of various projects, including the Aliabad stone quarry, caravanserais built along the route, the Hazrat Masoumeh guesthouse, the new courtyard of the Hazrat Masoumeh shrine, as well as newly constructed roads and bridges.
