SAEDNEWS: Iran’s ambassador to the UN has categorically rejected Western claims that Tehran supplied weapons to Russia for use in the Ukraine war, calling them part of a deliberate disinformation campaign.
According to Saed News, Iran’s representative to the United Nations has categorically denied claims by the United States, France, and Ukraine that Tehran has supplied weapons to Russia for use in the Ukraine war, calling the accusations a “deliberate disinformation campaign.”
In a letter dated 5 August to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the UN Security Council, Elbio Rosselli Alfaro, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, rejected the “unfounded and unsubstantiated” accusations that Iran had delivered ballistic missiles and drones to Russia for use in the Ukraine conflict.
According to a report by Tasnim News Agency, the letter from Iravani reads:
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
I am writing this letter to categorically reject the baseless and politically motivated allegations made by the representative of the United States — echoed by representatives of France and Ukraine — during the 9970th meeting of the UN Security Council on 31 July 2025, under the agenda item “Threats to International Peace and Security.”
The allegation that the Islamic Republic of Iran has transferred ballistic missiles and drones to the Russian Federation for use in Ukraine is completely unfounded and unprovable. It is part of a deliberate disinformation campaign aimed at scapegoating Iran and distracting attention from the real causes of insecurity and instability in the international community.
He continued:
The Islamic Republic of Iran has always, and without ambiguity, supported a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, genuine dialogue, diplomacy, international law, and full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, as enshrined in the UN Charter.
Iravani also sharply criticized the role of the United States:
It is deeply regrettable that the United States — which bears significant responsibility for fueling and prolonging the war in Ukraine through the constant transfer of advanced weapons, military aid, and provocative policies — is now seeking to accuse others of destabilizing behavior. Such allegations are blatantly hypocritical and clearly reflect double standards.
For over two years, instead of promoting diplomacy, the United States has pursued a maximalist military agenda that has exacerbated the suffering of the Ukrainian people and blocked all possible paths to peace. Even more dangerously, reckless nuclear rhetoric and escalatory threats by the current U.S. administration — including recent public remarks by the U.S. president and the deployment of nuclear-capable submarines near Russian territory — have greatly increased the risk of catastrophic confrontation, threatening global peace and security.
He then pointed to what he called blatant contradictions in U.S. and Western behavior:
Equally concerning is the glaring inconsistency of the United States and some other Western countries, including France, in their approach to other conflicts. The United States continues to arm and shield the Israeli regime in its ongoing military campaign and acts of genocide against the Palestinian people. So far, this genocide in Gaza has claimed the lives of over 60,000 civilians — two-thirds of whom are women and children — and has led to the systematic destruction of large parts of the territory through indiscriminate bombings, deliberate starvation, and other inhumane methods, all carried out with complete impunity.
Furthermore, while falsely accusing Iran, the United States has itself provided full military, financial, and political support to the Israeli regime, which on 12 June 2025 launched an unprovoked and aggressive war against Iran. Even more egregiously, the United States directly committed an act of aggression by targeting Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, which are under IAEA safeguards — a blatant and deliberate violation of international law and the UN Charter. This reckless action, which risked the release of radioactive material, posed a serious threat to the environment and public health.
Iravani concluded:
It is the height of hypocrisy for those who authorize, support, and defend acts of aggression, occupation, crimes against humanity, and military attacks on sovereign nations to then accuse others of destabilizing actions or preach about international norms.
The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on all members of the UN Security Council to decisively reject the selective, manipulated, and politically driven use of unfounded allegations for political purposes.
