According to Saed News, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad served as the sixth President of the Islamic Republic of Iran from 2005 to 2013. A former mayor of Tehran and an engineer by training, he rose to prominence as a populist figure known for his conservative stance, fiery rhetoric, and confrontational approach to foreign policy—particularly toward the United States and Israel.
During his presidency, Ahmadinejad implemented various economic subsidies and housing projects aimed at supporting Iran’s lower-income population, although critics argue that his economic policies contributed to inflation and economic mismanagement. His tenure was also marked by widespread international criticism over Iran's nuclear program, human rights issues, and his denial of the Holocaust.
The 2009 presidential election, which resulted in his re-election, sparked mass protests and was followed by a violent crackdown, marking one of the most turbulent periods in Iran's recent political history.
In recent years, Ahmadinejad has maintained a controversial presence in Iranian politics, occasionally criticizing the establishment and attempting to return to political office. Despite being disqualified from the 2017 and 2021 presidential races by the Guardian Council, his appearances in public spaces, such as Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, continue to draw attention and large crowds.
