SAEDNEWS: A rare public appearance by the maternal uncle of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, alongside members of the Leader’s family, has drawn attention during a memorial ceremony commemorating Ayatollah Seyyed Hashem Mirdamadi — the maternal grandfather of the Islamic Republic’s highest authority.
According to Saed News, citing Young Journalists Club, the event marked a solemn tribute to Ayatollah Mirdamadi, a prominent cleric and maternal ancestor of the Leader, whose legacy has long been revered within Iran’s clerical circles. Among the attendees were several of Khamenei’s children, as well as his maternal uncle, pictured standing at the far left in an image released from the ceremony.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, son of the late Ayatollah Seyyed Javad Hosseini Khamenei, was born on 24 Tir 1318 (corresponding to 28 Safar 1358 AH) in the holy city of Mashhad. He is the second son in a family known for its austere lifestyle and deep-rooted religious devotion. His father, a modest and highly respected teacher of Islamic sciences, instilled in his household the virtues of piety, frugality, and simplicity — values that shaped the upbringing of his children.
The memorial event, held as part of a broader commemoration congress for Ayatollah Mirdamadi, highlighted the enduring influence of family lineage within Iran’s religious and political establishment. Though the Leader himself was not present, the visible participation of his relatives served as a subtle yet poignant affirmation of the family’s continued reverence for their scholarly heritage.
