Saed News: Informed sources have reported that the President of Russia has signed the law on the Comprehensive Strategic Treaty between Russia and the Islamic Republic of Iran. They stated that with Putin’s signature, the legal process for this treaty has been completed in Russia.
According to Saed News, quoting IRNA, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, has signed into law the Comprehensive Strategic Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran, a treaty that had previously been approved by both the State Duma and the Federation Council—Russia’s two legislative chambers.
The document has been published on Russia’s official legal information portal.
On Friday, January 18, 2025, during a visit by Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian to Moscow, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Iran and Russia was signed by the presidents of both countries in a formal ceremony at the Kremlin.
This treaty outlines the legal framework for long-term cooperation between Moscow and Tehran. It elevates Iran-Russia relations to the level of a strategic partnership and encompasses all areas—including defense, counterterrorism, energy, finance, transportation, industry, agriculture, culture, science, and technology.
Previously, Russian lawmakers had approved the draft treaty submitted by the Russian government—with the State Duma ratifying it on April 7, 2025, and the Federation Council on April 16. With Putin’s signature, the legal process for this treaty has now been completed in Russia.
However, for the treaty to come into effect, the legal procedures must also be completed in both countries.
In an exclusive interview with Russia Today during his recent visit to Russia, Iran’s Foreign Minister said, “The Iranian parliament will approve this treaty in the coming days, and I believe it will be implemented within the next few weeks.”
Abbas Araghchi noted: “This treaty provides a long-term outlook for Iran-Russia relations. Our cooperation began even before this treaty, and we are currently in a very good place. However, this agreement strengthens the foundation of our relationship. Since it is a 20-year agreement and renewable, it establishes a long-term perspective.”
He added: “The Comprehensive Strategic Treaty also sends a message to the world that Iran and Russia are committed to long-term cooperation, and that temporary issues cannot undermine this relationship. I believe that once implemented, this treaty will strengthen and accelerate our collaborative efforts.”
