The Sun reports that the 13,000-square-foot (1,207-square-meter) property, located by Lake Valdai and constructed entirely of wood in the style of traditional Russian villas, is home to 39-year-old Olympic rhythmic gymnast Alina Kabaeva.
A Russian investigative platform, The Project, has claimed that the Russian leader used a special account in Cyprus — tied to illicit income — to purchase the sprawling £100 million estate for her.
Photos of the mansion, leaked by a construction supervisor who worked near the property until 2005, reveal an opulent interior that appears inspired by Putin’s love for his hometown, Saint Petersburg, and its 18th-century Hermitage Museum.
It is believed that one of the images shows the Russian president’s study, furnished with ornate mahogany pieces and secure telephones typically used by senior Kremlin officials.
