Tehran Denounces American Military Posturing in Caribbean, Backs Venezuela

According to Saed News, citing ISNA, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the United States’ threats to use force against Venezuela and warned of the dangerous consequences of U.S. adventurism on peace and security in the Caribbean region.

 Aegis-equipped destroyers

In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned U.S. threats against Venezuela’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity and highlighted the severe repercussions of Washington’s actions on regional stability. The statement described these actions as a continuation of U.S. interventionist and illegal policies toward the Venezuelan people, constituting a blatant violation of the UN Charter, particularly Article 2, Paragraph 4, which prohibits the use of force or threats against independent states, and a clear sign of growing disregard by the U.S. administration for fundamental international law norms.

The statement concluded by reaffirming Iran’s solidarity with the people and government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and emphasizing the urgent need for the UN Security Council and Secretary-General to address the potentially dangerous and peace-threatening situation in the Caribbean.

Earlier, Reuters, citing two informed sources, reported that the U.S. would deploy three Aegis-equipped destroyers to Venezuelan waters within 36 hours to confront what Washington describes as a “drug cartel threat.”

Another U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that in addition to 4,000 sailors and Marines in the southern Caribbean, several P-8 reconnaissance aircraft, warships, and at least one attack submarine would be deployed.
