SAEDNEWS: Ukraine has terminated its 1993 diplomatic visa agreement with Iran, citing concerns over Tehran’s alleged support for Russia, while Iran maintains its stance as a neutral party seeking regional stability.
According to Saed News, citing ISNA, the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has canceled the memorandum of understanding with Iran regarding visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic and service passports.
On Wednesday, Taras Melnichuk, Ukraine’s government representative in parliament, wrote on his Telegram channel: “The memorandum of understanding between the Government of Ukraine and the Islamic Republic of Iran concerning visa exemptions for citizens holding diplomatic and service passports, signed on March 15, 1993, in Kyiv, has been terminated.”
According to TASS news agency, Kyiv also canceled the 1993 air transport agreement with Tehran in November 2024.
The Ukrainian government has repeatedly accused Iran of supporting Russia in the war against Ukraine, but Tehran emphasizes that it seeks peace and regional stability and is not a party to the conflict. Ukrainian officials have also regularly announced withdrawals from agreements made with Russia and Belarus within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
