Sanctions as a Weapon: Iran Calls for Global Response to ‘Crimes Against Humanity’

According to Saed News, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi addressed the impact of sanctions on Iran in an official post on X, stating: “Western regimes have always claimed that sanctions are a bloodless alternative to war. But what is the reality?”

He added that a recent study published in the reputable journal The Lancet shows that unilateral sanctions, particularly those imposed by the United States, can be as deadly as war.

Araghchi emphasized that since the 1970s, more than 500,000 people have died annually due to sanctions, with the primary victims being children and the elderly.

He stated that the time has come for these inhumane sanctions, imposed by the U.S. and its allies, to be recognized as crimes against humanity.

The Iranian foreign minister also urged that countries under sanctions respond to this systematic injustice through coordinated and collective efforts.
