SAEDNEWS: Princess Yufelma Choden Wangchuck of Bhutan Marries at 27
According to Saed News Society Service, the Wangchuck family has ruled Bhutan for over a century and remains highly respected in the landlocked country nestled between India and China. The princess’s father abdicated the throne in 2008, paving the way for democracy. Since then, Bhutan has become a constitutional monarchy.
Princess Ugyenma Choden Wangchuck, the youngest princess of the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, married at the age of 27. The royal family announced that the princess wed Dasho Thinley Norbu, who is a year her senior, during a ceremony held Thursday at the main royal palace.
The bride is the half-sister of the current king, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, while her husband is the younger brother of the current queen, Jetsun Pema. Princess Ugyenma studied sociology in the United States and currently serves as chair of Bhutan’s Paralympic Committee.
Her husband is educated in India and works as a pilot for Bhutan Airlines, Druk Air. Bhutan, a small country sandwiched between the giants of India and China, is widely celebrated as one of the happiest and most peaceful nations in the world.
