Commander of Iranian Border Police Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goodarzi said full security prevails at all six border crossings in western Iran along the common border with Iraq while the visits by Arbaeen pilgrims have gained a momentum.

He said the Border Police is ensuring the security of the pilgrims in the crowded routes with electronic and optical systems, advanced drones, and various types of micro aerial vehicles.

Hailing the close security cooperation and coordination with Iraq, the commander said the big crowds of travelers are seamlessly crossing the border via the Khosravi, Mehran, Shalamcheh, Chazzabeh, Tamarchin and Bashmaq border crossings around the clock.

The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.

It marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, pilgrims, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located.

This year, Arbaeen will fall on August 14.
