SAEDNEWS: Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref expressed Tehran’s support for regional peace and stability and the negotiated settlement of disputes between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In a meeting with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, held on the sidelines of the 3rd UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in Turkmenistan on Monday, Aref welcomed the peace talks among the neighbors and the negotiated resolution of conflicts in the region.
“We welcome the establishment of peace and sustainable stability in the region and among the neighboring countries. We deem that peace would benefit all regional countries and believe that the regional problems should be settled without foreign interference,” the Iranian vice president stated.
Reaffirming Iran’s support for the membership of the friendly states in the regional organizations, Aref said the Islamic Republic favors Armenia’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Armenia applied to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in July.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Yerevan had submitted its membership application to the Eurasian political, economic, and security bloc, adding, "It fits well within our agenda of balancing and pursuing a balanced foreign policy. We will continue working on this."
