A senior adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a trip to Moscow, says a Kremlin spokesperson.

Dmitry Peskov announced that Ali Larijani, an aide to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, met with Putin at the Russian Presidential Palace on Sunday.

According to Peskov, the escalation of tensions in West Asia and issues related to Iran’s nuclear program were among the topics discussed.

“The Russian side expressed well-known positions aimed at stabilizing the situation in the region and a political settlement of the issues related to the Iranian nuclear program,” he was quoted by Russian media.

No further details were immediately available, including the reason behind Larijani’s visit to Moscow.

Iran and Russia enjoy a close diplomatic and political relationship, and both remain under Western sanctions and pressure.

In January, the two countries signed a Comprehensive Strategic Agreement, aimed at expanding bilateral relations, especially in the fields of economy, science, technology, culture, and tourism.
