Iran Resolved to Preserve Enrichment: FM

Araqchi and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov held a meeting on the sidelines of a session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in China’s Tianjin on Tuesday.

The two senior diplomats reviewed the bilateral Tehran-Moscow relations and the regional developments following the military aggression of the Zionist regime and the United States against Iran, and followed up on the issues of mutual interest.

Deploring the political smear campaign by the US and certain European countries against Iran following the Israeli and American acts of aggression, Araqchi reiterated Iran’s firm determination to defend the country and hold the aggressors accountable.

He also emphasized Iran’s legitimate right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, including enrichment.

Araqchi further highlighted the consequences of the Zionist regime and US aggression in discrediting the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, diplomacy, and the non-proliferation regime.

The Iranian foreign minister underscored the responsibility of the UN Security Council and all states to fulfill their obligations in preserving regional and international peace and security.

For his part, Lavrov reaffirmed Russia’s position in condemning the illegal attacks against Iran, particularly those targeting its peaceful nuclear facilities.

He emphasized the continuation of bilateral and multilateral consultations aimed at preventing further escalation of tensions and insecurity in the region and expressed Russia’s readiness to assist in this regard, including within the international forums, especially the UN Security Council.
