Haifa Mayor Calls For Evacuation of Bazan Refinery Following Iranian Missile Strikes

According to Saednews, Mayor of Haifa, Yona Yahav, has called for the evacuation and removal of the Bazan oil refinery and its parent company from the port city, warning that the facility is a serious and existential threat following Iran’s recent missile strikes.

According to a report by the Israeli newspaper Maariv, Yahav said that inspections conducted after the attack confirmed the hazardous nature of the Bazan Group’s operations and the risks they pose to local residents. He described the threat as “clear and undeniable” and urged the Israeli cabinet to take swift action to relocate the facility.

In a related statement, Avihu Han, head of Haifa’s Environmental Protection Association, criticized the Bazan Group for its “arrogance and irresponsibility.” He emphasized that the refinery no longer has a place in the heart of a densely populated urban area and called for an immediate halt to any reconstruction or repair efforts.

On Monday, The Times of Israel reported that the Bazan refinery sustained severe damage during Iran’s retaliatory missile strikes and may remain non-operational for several months.

As part of its retaliation for Israel’s war of aggression, the Iranian Armed Forces struck Haifa and its vital infrastructure, including the oil refinery.
