Saednews: The ambassador and representative of Iraq to the United Nations called the U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities a violation of international treaties and said: “This attack constitutes an expansion of danger and threatens international peace and security.”
According to Saed News, quoting an IRNA reporter from the United Nations headquarters, Abbas Obeid, in an emergency meeting of the Security Council, referred to and condemned the repeated violations of his country’s airspace for military attacks between Israel and Iran.
The Iraqi representative to the Security Council emphasized: Targeting nuclear facilities marks a dangerous development. Regional developments are a true test for the international system.
He said: Attacking Iran carries the risk of igniting regional wars in an area where people have suffered for decades.
The Iraqi ambassador to the United Nations continued: We have recorded repeated violations of our airspace and once again reject its use in any conflict. Iraq’s soil should not be used to attack another country.
Obeid warned: Targeting nuclear facilities is a dangerous act that may lead to radiation leaks and endanger human lives and the environment in neighboring countries.
He stressed: The U.S. attack on Iran is a threat that could escalate tensions and ignite regional wars in a region whose nations have suffered from the devastation of wars for decades.
The Iraqi ambassador also recalled the hardships his own country has experienced due to war and its consequences, saying that the continuation of the Israel-Iran war would deal a fatal blow to the regional economy.
Kuwait Calls for Cessation of Hostilities
The ambassador and representative of Kuwait to the Security Council also called for UN intervention to stop the war.
In the emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, he said that his country, as a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, calls on the parties to exercise restraint and prevent further attacks.
The Kuwaiti ambassador emphasized: As a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, we demand the cessation of attacks on infrastructure facilities, including nuclear ones.
According to Saednews, the United States, under the order of its president Donald Trump, early Sunday morning Tehran time (June 22, 2025), by attacking three nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, joined Netanyahu’s war against Iran. The Israeli regime began a terrorist attack on Tehran and several Iranian cities early Friday morning (June 12, 2025), resulting in the martyrdom of several military commanders, scientists, and civilians.
Following this U.S. action, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi issued a statement emphasizing: Based on the UN Charter and its provisions allowing legitimate response within self-defense, Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interests, and people.
The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran also stated that the country’s nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan were attacked in a brutal act violating international laws, especially the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), by enemies of Islamic Iran, and stressed: We will not allow the development of this national industry to be stopped.
Simultaneously, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as the U.S. joined Israel’s attack against Iran, announced the start of the twentieth round of combined missile-drone attacks against military targets and military-industrial centers in the cities of Haifa and Tel Aviv.
Iran’s mission to the United Nations, following the U.S. attack on Iranian soil, early Sunday morning local time (New York), in an urgent letter to the Security Council declared: “The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns these aggressive acts, which were unprovoked and premeditated,” and requested an emergency Security Council meeting to strongly condemn these attacks.
