Saed News: The Death Mask is one of the most famous works of art in the world and a prominent symbol of ancient Egypt.
According to the History Service of Saed News, the dazzling objects that were discovered years ago in the tomb of Tutankhamun, the famous Pharaoh of ancient Egypt, in the Valley of the Kings are unique and remain astonishing even after thousands of years. Some of these artifacts, such as his death mask, are very famous.
This 53-centimeter mask, which was placed on the mummy's face, is mostly made of gold and decorated with colorful precious stones. The mask weighs 10 kilograms, and obsidian and quartz stones were used to create its eyes. The mask depicts Tutankhamun's face with a long beard and a headband shaped like a cobra.
On the back of this mask, a spell from the "Book of the Dead" is written in hieroglyphics to ensure that the mask acts as the deceased person's face and that the Pharaoh has no trouble in the afterlife. This spell is also inscribed on one of the three nested coffins in which Tutankhamun’s mummy was placed.
This mask is currently kept at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
