SAEDNEWS: Iraqi political analyst Riyadh al-Wahili believes that the US troop withdrawal from the Arab country is a deception and mere political maneuver by Washington.
Political analyst Riyadh al-Wahili has said the United States cannot be trusted and continues to violate Iraq’s sovereignty under various pretexts, stressing that Washington’s declaration of withdrawal is nothing more than a political tactic.
Al-Wahili argued that America’s continued actions reflect disregard for international law and Iraqi government decisions, revealing Washington’s intention to maintain a military and security presence in Iraq. He emphasized that the complete end of the United States’ military presence is the only way to guarantee Iraq’s sovereignty and independence in national decision-making.
His comments, carried by Iraq’s Al-Maalomah news agency on Sunday, come as the US has begun withdrawing from Iraq, a move which Canada’s Geopolitical Monitor has described as a re-deployment rather than pullout, which argued that Washington pursues a long-term military presence in Iraq.
Back in January 2020, following the assassination of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ (IRGC) Quds Force Commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Deputy Chief Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in a US strike at the Baghdad International Airport, the Iraqi parliament passed a law demanding the expulsion of American and coalition forces. The legislation also prohibits the use of Iraqi airspace by foreign forces, reflecting a broad public demand for the full withdrawal of US troops.
