SAEDNEWS: A wind-driven wildfire on a hillside above the southern California city of San Bernardino burned several homes and forced evacuations before it was brought under control on Tuesday, firefighters reported.
According to SAEDNEWS, A recent brush fire in California has wreaked havoc, with video footage from local TV station KTLA 5 revealing that at least five residences were engulfed after the fast-moving flames spread to upscale homes overlooking a city of 220,000 residents, situated approximately 55 miles (88 km) east of Los Angeles, as reported by Reuters.
The fire ignited on Monday and rapidly consumed 100 acres (40 hectares) before being largely contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, also known as CAL FIRE. Currently, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Warmer-than-average temperatures combined with abundant vegetation, following a wet winter and spring, have created ideal conditions for wildfires in California, the most populous state in the U.S. Experts attribute the increasing severity and frequency of heatwaves to climate change.
In another development, a fire in the forested mountains north of Sacramento has escalated into California's fourth-largest wildfire on record, scorching an area larger than the city of Los Angeles across two counties. Dubbed the Park Fire, it erupted on Monday, burning through more than 12,000 acres and leading to further evacuations in the Mill Creek area, according to Cal Fire.
The combination of parched forests, high temperatures, and steep canyons has complicated firefighting efforts, resulting in the destruction of around 640 homes and other structures. As of Tuesday morning, the fire had consumed 414,042 acres and was reported to be 34% contained.
