According to Saed News, Republican Congressman Buddy Carter of Georgia submitted a letter to the Nobel Committee nominating President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Carter lauded Trump’s “extraordinary and historic” efforts to end the armed conflict between Israel and Iran, asserting that such achievements merit global recognition.
Critics, however, label the nomination “laughable.” Trump recently authorised a strike against Iranian targets—an act that some argue contravenes the United Nations Charter and undercuts any claim to peacemaking credentials. Moreover, Israel’s history of withdrawing from accords at its convenience makes the notion of a lasting ceasefire all the more dubious.
Analysts point out the irony of nominating a president whose recent actions include military escalation. “It strains credulity to portray these interventions as steps toward peace,” says Dr. Mina Rahimi, a Middle East specialist.
