SAEDNEWS: Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus will serve as the head of Bangladesh's interim government, local media reported early Wednesday.
According to SAEDNEWS, A decision was made during a meeting between President Mohammed Shahabuddin, the chiefs of the three armed services, and coordinators from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement to finalize the framework for an interim government on Tuesday night, as reported by Bangladesh's state-run news agency BSS.
The President approved the proposal discussed in the meeting, as confirmed by Press Secretary Md. Joynal Abedin.
During the discussions, Shahabuddin emphasized the need for an interim government to be established promptly to address the ongoing deep crisis in Bangladesh. He called for collective efforts from all parties to find a resolution to the situation.
Earlier on Tuesday, President Shahabuddin took the significant step of dissolving parliament, thereby facilitating the formation of an interim government in the wake of the collapse of the administration led by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The political landscape in Bangladesh has become increasingly uncertain following Hasina's resignation and subsequent flight from the country on Monday.
