NASA's Laser Communication with the Farthest Point of the Solar System

SAEDNEWS: NASA's Psyche mission established laser communication from the farthest point in the solar system. Initially transmitting at 267 Mbps from 53 million km, the speed dropped to 8.3 Mbps at 460 million km.

NASA's Laser Communication with the Farthest Point of the Solar System

Despite this drop, the speed remains about 100 times faster than data transmission with radio waves, allowing NASA to download over 11 terabytes of data during the mission.

The spacecraft's long journey to reach the Psyche asteroid will continue until 2029, and it is expected to remain in orbit around this metal-rich asteroid until 2031.
