Iranian Press Sounds Alarm on Renewed Sanctions and Public Anxiety

The Iranian newspaper Jomhouri Eslami, as reported by Saed News, has issued a warning about the potential return of sanctions through the “snapback” mechanism. The paper emphasizes that even a single line of sanction, even if only on paper, should not be taken lightly.

“All our efforts must be focused on finding at least a small opening—be it an alley, a door, or a window—through this deadlock,” the report stated. “With this development, we are returning to the era of Jalili/Ahmadinejad sanctions. Back then, officials dismissed resolutions as mere scraps of paper, claiming they had no effect. ‘Sanctions? What sanctions?’ they would say on camera. They were the architects of a situation we all experienced.”

The newspaper added: “Interestingly, those very same people who created that situation and regarded it as a blessing, and were proud of it, are now panicking at the prospect of returning to those conditions and blaming everyone else. We strongly dislike this situation, but how can the creators of these hardships and sanctions claim otherwise today? The nation’s memory is not so short that it forgets everything.”

Jomhouri Eslami emphasized that the path must be found to close this dead-end. “The crushing effect of sanctions should not rise like a demon again and burn the hopes of the people. We hope that responsible officials will take the best decisions to prevent this worst action by the three European countries. Actions must be aligned to prevent further entanglements in international relations. We remain hopeful.”
