SAEDNEWS: President Pezeshkian emphasized that while Iran seeks peace and stability, it will never succumb to coercion, highlighting that the return of sanctions is unwelcome but it is not the end of the road for the country.

Iran Seeks Peace and Stability, Stands Firm Against Coercion

During a meeting with anti-war activists on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, President Pezeshkian emphasized that meaningful dialogue can only occur on equal terms, free from intimidation.

Addressing recent regional tensions, Pezeshkian condemned the Israeli attack on Qatar, which took place during a ceasefire proposal meeting, calling it “a blatant disregard for human rights.” He highlighted that many countries now recognize the Israeli regime, rather than Iran, as the main source of insecurity in the region.

Criticizing the inaction of international organizations, Pezeshkian pointed out that these acts of aggression are often supported by the United States and some Western nations. Reflecting on the historical enmity between the US and Iran since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, he remarked that the US has consistently sought to create problems for Iran and instigate regional conflict. While reiterating that Iran does not desire war, Pezeshkian affirmed that any aggression against the country would receive a decisive response.

Recalling the 12-day war imposed by Israel, he noted that such crises fostered greater unity within Iranian society. He criticized international bodies for their failure to confront Israeli atrocities, questioning the silence of the global conscience in the face of civilian casualties in Gaza.

Pezeshkian also expressed support for public diplomacy and direct communication between the Iranian and American peoples, but noted that the US administration obstructs such relations. He highlighted that even during ongoing negotiations, Israel carried out attacks on Iran with US backing, calling into question the legality of such actions under international law.

Looking ahead, Pezeshkian underscored Iran’s ability to navigate challenges through strengthened bilateral relations with neighbors and active participation in international organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the BRICS group, and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Anti-war activists present at the meeting voiced concerns over unrealistic statements by some world leaders, particularly former US President Donald Trump, emphasizing justice as the foundation for genuine peace. They advocated for direct Iran-US dialogue, enhanced public diplomacy to counter false media narratives, and effective deterrent measures to stop Israeli aggression against Gaza’s civilians.
