Iran Opposes Foreign Intervention in Libya's Internal Affairs: First VP Aref

First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref has emphasized the importance of maintaining Libya's integrity, unity, and sovereignty, saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran opposes any foreign intervention in Libya's internal affairs.

Aref met with Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya Mohamed al-Menfi on Tuesday in the city of Awaza, Turkmenistan, on the sidelines of the third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, according to a press release by the Iranian presidential office.

The Iranian official stressed that despite severe foreign sanctions, his country has turned these threats into opportunities, and that the Islamic Republic has made significant achievements in scientific and technological fields, and expressed readiness to share its experiences with Libya, considering the sanctions against the African country.

He highlighted the long-standing cultural and historical ties between the two nations and the potential for developing relations in all areas, particularly in science, technology, and the economy. The VP pointed out that the upward trend in political communications and the reopening of Iran's embassy in Tripoli, alongside the growth of economic exchanges, indicates progress in bilateral relations.

Aref also proposed activating a joint commission as a framework for advancing cooperation and exchanging experts and high-ranking delegations between the two countries.

He expressed gratitude for Libya's stance during the 12-day war imposed by the Israeli regime against Iran in June, calling for serious and immediate action from friendly countries to prevent the continuation of the regime's atrocities in Gaza.

Al-Menfi called the meeting an important step toward strengthening and expanding relations between Iran and Libya. He said that the two countries need to appoint ambassadors to foster growth and development in bilateral relations.

He further condemned the Israeli regime's attacks on Iran and expressed solidarity and sympathy with the Iranian government and people, emphasizing that Libya supports the Islamic Republic in all regional and international matters and that Iran has the right to be self-sufficient in energy production.

The Libyan official said that Iran can play an important role in maintaining and enhancing stability in Libya and that his country supports Iran's stance regarding the Palestinian people and Gaza.
