SAEDNEWS: The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that Iran-Turkmenistan bilateral relations have broadened over past years, calling for the upward trend of the relations to continue.
According to SAEDNEWS, In a strong endorsement of growing bilateral relations, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has called for the ongoing expansion of ties between Iran and Turkmenistan. During a meeting with Gurbanguly Mälikgulyýewiç Berdimuhamedow, the Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, and his delegation on Wednesday in Tehran, Khamenei highlighted the progress made in recent years and emphasized the need for this upward trend to continue.
Ayatollah Khamenei noted that the interactions between the two nations have significantly strengthened and expressed optimism that this momentum would persist under the new Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian. “The trend of growing bilateral relations needs to go on during the tenure of the new Iranian president,” he stated.
The Leader also referenced a series of cooperation agreements signed between Iran and Turkmenistan, revealing that “Mrs. Sadegh, Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development, as the head of the joint commission, will follow up on the agreements of the two countries to yield the desired results.”
In discussing key collaborative projects, Khamenei stressed the importance of initiatives such as the South-North highway project and the Turkmenistan gas pipeline development, aiming to operationalize these endeavors. He remarked, “The implementation of these big projects with the cooperation of Iranian technicians and experts will bring the close relations between the two countries even closer than ever.”
The meeting was attended by Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, who witnessed the discussions. Berdimuhamedow expressed a familial connection between the two nations, stating, “I had good and constructive talks with the President in Tehran, and I hope that the signed agreements will yield good results.”
He also took a moment to remember the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi, acknowledging the efforts made during his administration to enhance Iran-Turkmenistan relations. "The long shared border between Turkmenistan and Iran has always been so will be a border of peace and friendship, and we are ready to expand relations in all areas," he affirmed.
Earlier the same day, the two leaders participated in a joint press conference where officials from both countries signed four cooperation documents, underscoring the commitment to deepening their partnership.
