Iran and Russia Conduct Transactions Free of Dollar, Boosting Bilateral Ties Under BRICS Presidency

According to SAEDNEWS, In a significant development for international relations, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf has expressed optimism about the potential of BRICS under Russia's presidency to enhance collaborations between Tehran and Moscow. During a meeting in Moscow with Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of Russia's Federation Council, held alongside the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, Qalibaf pointed out the vast economic growth, investment, and trade opportunities available for both nations.

Qalibaf emphasized the importance of BRICS as a platform that enables Iran and Russia to align on common interests and bolster their partnership. He mentioned that all transactions between the two countries are currently conducted without relying on dollars, highlighting a strategic shift towards strengthening economic ties free from traditional financial constraints.

Moreover, Matviyenko reiterated Russia's support for Iran’s membership in BRICS, emphasizing Tehran's active role in various formats of the group. She also expressed condolences for the tragic passing of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash last May, expressing hope that the newly elected President, Masoud Pezeshkian, will continue to foster strong bilateral relations.

Reflecting on the deep-seated connections between Iran and Russia, Qalibaf noted that both nations share not only common interests but also common adversaries, particularly in the Eurasian landscape, where they play pivotal roles. He recounted his previous visit to Russia, where he delivered a message from Iranian Leader Ayatollah Khamenei to President Putin, underlining the extensive and comprehensive long-term agreement encompassing various realms, including social, cultural, political, security, and defense cooperation.

The changing geopolitical environment, particularly the challenge posed by NATO and misguided U.S. policies, has facilitated the emergence of alliances like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS. Qalibaf argued that these institutions are growing rapidly as a response to unilateral actions by Western powers, further solidifying the strategic partnership between Iran and Russia.

In conclusion, the current dynamics within BRICS present both Iran and Russia with invaluable opportunities to enhance their collaboration, ensuring that they move forward together, capitalizing on shared goals while navigating the complexities of the international landscape.
