Iran and France Foreign Ministers Discuss Snapback Talks in Phone Call

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot held a late-night phone conversation on Tuesday, centering on the growing tensions following the E3’s controversial attempt to trigger the so-called “snapback” mechanism.

Barrot voiced concern over the escalating situation and emphasized the importance of preserving channels for dialogue, urging a return to the diplomatic track.

Araghchi firmly rejected the activation of the snapback, labeling it politically and legally illegitimate. He warned that such unilateral actions by European states at the UN Security Council would only deepen the crisis and fuel regional instability.

Highlighting the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, Araghchi recalled the recent agreement between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He stressed that diplomacy remains Iran’s preferred path for resolving international issues and reiterated the country’s readiness for fair, balanced solutions that protect mutual interests.

The two ministers also discussed bilateral relations, including consular matters, and underscored the need to maintain regular consultations and ongoing communication between Tehran and Paris.
