Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday praised French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine, calling it “a positive path to preserve the future prospect of a sovereign and independent State of Palestine.”

It stressed support for a Palestinian state “within its 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital,” and urged all governments yet to recognize Palestine to “follow France’s path.”

French President Emmanuel Macron announced Thursday that France would formally recognize the Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September.

“In line with our historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine,” Macron said on X.

Germany, the UK, and France also voiced opposition to any attempt to formalize Israel’s illegal annexation of Palestinian territories.

Currently, 149 out of 193 UN member states recognize Palestine as a sovereign state.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday described the Gaza crisis as “a moral crisis that challenges the global conscience,” and condemned the relentless Israeli assault on Gaza as a blatant violation of international law.

“Nothing can justify the explosion of death and destruction,” Guterres said, warning of the international community’s “indifference, inaction, and lack of humanity.”

He described the trauma among UN staff in Gaza, with many “so numb and depleted that they say they feel neither dead nor alive,” while children longed for heaven “because there is food there.”

“This is not just a humanitarian crisis—it is a moral collapse,” Guterres said, demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and unrestricted humanitarian access.

He said over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed since May 27 while trying to obtain food, not in combat but “in desperation—while the entire population starves.”

The UN reported that an additional nine Palestinians died from hunger in the past 24 hours, raising the starvation death toll to 122. Gaza’s Health Ministry added that 294 Palestinians had been killed by Israeli forces since June 30 while seeking aid.

Since October 7, Israel has slaughtered over 59,700 Palestinians—mostly women and children—in Gaza.

The Israeli regime’s military aggression has devastated Gaza, obliterated hospitals, and forced famine on the population.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and ex-war minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Israel also stands trial at the International Court of Justice for committing genocide in Gaza.
