SAEDNEWS: Tangerine Tatlı is a delicious Turkish dessert you can serve at Yalda Night parties. If ladyfinger biscuits are unavailable, you can use petit beurre biscuits as the base layer. This dessert not only has a very simple preparation method but also boasts an incredible flavor.

How to Make Tangerine Tatlı

Ingredients for Tangerine Tatlı:

  • Biscuits: 1 pack

  • Milk: 1 liter

  • Cornstarch: 2 tablespoons

  • Flour: 2 tablespoons

  • Sugar: 1 cup

  • Vanilla: 1 teaspoon

  • Tangerine juice: 3 cups

Preparation Method:

You can follow the steps below to easily prepare this delicious dessert at home and enjoy it.

  1. Prepare the Biscuits:
Dip the biscuits in tangerine juice to moisten them slightly. Be careful not to soak them too much to prevent them from falling apart; they should remain just moistened.

  2. Prepare the Milk Mixture:
Combine the milk, sugar, flour, and cornstarch in a pot. Mix thoroughly with a hand whisk.

    • Warm the milk slightly before adding it to the mixture.

    • Sift the flour three times before adding it to remove any lumps, ensuring a smoother texture for your dessert.

    • Gradually add the flour and cornstarch to avoid drying out the dessert mixture.

  3. Cook the Mixture:
Place the pot on the stove and stir constantly until the mixture thickens. Stir continuously to prevent the mixture from burning.

    • Once the mixture reaches the desired consistency, turn off the stove.

    • Add the vanilla and mix well. Use powdered vanilla for a richer flavor.

  4. Prepare the Muhallebi (Milk Pudding):
This cooked mixture is known as "muhallebi." Pour it over the biscuits and add a cup of tangerine juice. Allow the dish to cool separately.

  5. Prepare the Tangerine Topping:
In another pot, combine tangerine juice, cornstarch, and sugar. Mix well using a whisk. This layer will go on top of the tatlı and give it an appealing appearance.

    • Cook the mixture until it reaches the right consistency. Once cooled, add it over the prepared layers.

  6. Assemble the Dessert:

    • Choose a Pyrex dish and lightly grease the bottom.

    • Layer the biscuits and muhallebi alternately. Pour the tangerine mixture over the top as the final layer.

    • Refrigerate the dessert for at least one hour to set.

  7. Decorate and Serve:
Garnish the top with slices of tangerine or orange for a visually appealing finish.

This dessert requires minimal preparation time and is perfect for enjoying with family and friends. It’s especially suitable for autumn and Yalda Night celebrations.
