Fars Authorities Set to Designate Sepidan as a Special Tourism Zone

According to SAEDNEWS, The tourism potential of Sepidan in Fars province has led local authorities to prioritize its recognition as a designated tourism zone in southern Iran.

Located 65 kilometers west of Shiraz, Sepidan is a city renowned for its lush greenery, towering trees, majestic mountains, and lively springs. It attracts numerous local and international visitors, particularly from the Persian Gulf region.

Amin Salahi, a tourism advocate, highlights the city's geographical features, noting that the surrounding mountains play a crucial role in feeding the Karoun, Fahliyan, and Kor river basins. He further explains that approximately 30 peaks exceeding 3,000 meters in height receive rainfall and snow from these watersheds.

Sepidan is home to the southernmost ski resorts in the Northern Hemisphere, with more than 70% of the days suitable for skiing being sunny and calm. Additionally, Salahi points out that the villages in Sepidan, including Ardakan, have great potential to be developed into ecotourism sites, with their traditional brick and stone buildings that showcase local handicrafts, offering a unique tourism experience.

For tourism to thrive in Sepidan, Salahi believes that promoting the culture of tourism among both locals and visitors is essential. Sepidan’s governor, Ali Alizadeh, emphasized that the city is home to over 35 tourism zones and stressed the need to attract both domestic and foreign investors to improve tourist services. He believes that such investments would lead to economic growth, job creation, higher income levels, and a thriving market.

However, a major challenge remains—the city has not yet been officially registered as a designated tourism zone, despite ongoing efforts. Key tourist attractions in Sepidan include the Margoon and Chikan waterfalls, Tange Marzban, Tange Morvarid, Beram Firooz Mountain, and the Chellehgah recreation area. During this year’s Nowruz holidays, the city saw over two million visitors despite the cold weather.

With a population of 52,000, around 70% of Sepidan's residents live in its villages, while the rest reside in the cities of Ardakan and Homashahr.
