A Step-by-Step Guide to Making Tahini and Date Cookies

Sesame cookies with tahini and dates are natural and healthy sweets where you can reduce the amount of sweetness or sugar and use the natural sweetness of dates.

Ingredients for Tahini and Date Cookies

  • ½ cup of tahini

  • ¼ cup of vegetable oil

  • ½ cup of powdered sugar or sugar

  • 1¼ cups of flour

  • ½ cup of sesame seeds

  • 12 pitted dates

Instructions for Making Tahini and Date Cookies

  1. Prepare the Dough: Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F). In a bowl, combine the tahini and vegetable oil. Set aside ¼ cup of flour and sift the remaining flour with the powdered sugar into the bowl containing the tahini. Mix the ingredients first with a spoon, then with your hands until smooth. The dough should be soft, smooth, and slightly sticky. If it's too sticky, gradually add the reserved flour. The dough should be slightly sticky and loose, which is natural.

  2. Shape the Cookies: Take equal-sized balls of dough and flatten them slightly in the palm of your hand. Place half a date in the center, close the dough around it to cover the date. Roll the cookie in sesame seeds until fully coated and place them on a baking tray. There's no need to space them too far apart as they won't spread much in the oven. Bake the cookies in the middle rack of the oven for 15 to 20 minutes until the sesame seeds are slightly golden. Do not touch the cookies until they are completely cool. Enjoy!
