According to the Tourism Service of Saed News, the waterfalls around Tehran are among the best options for day trips and picnics in nature, especially during the first half of the year. With the arrival of spring, the water flow of these waterfalls reaches its peak, and as summer progresses, their volume gradually decreases. Visiting these waterfalls allows you to enjoy the pleasant weather, lush forested landscapes, scenic mountains, and the tranquility of untouched nature. Kalugan Waterfall

Kalugan Waterfall, one of the tallest waterfalls in Tehran, is located in the Shemiranat region near the village of Kalugan. Also sometimes referred to as "Keligan," it lies close to the picturesque villages of Ahār, Emāmé, and Rudbar-e Qasran. To reach this area, you can drive along Babayi Highway, enter Lashgarak Road, and continue towards Fasham. After passing Hajjiabad village, you’ll find a side road leading to Kalugan village. There are also shared vans available from Tajrish Square that offer transport to this village.


Shakarab Waterfall

Shakarab Waterfall is located in the Shemiranat area in Rudbar-e Qasran, near the village of Ahār. This waterfall lies in a lush area filled with springs and qanats and was formed over time by erosion along the Ahar River. This river originates from the highlands of "Sanduq Chal" and eventually flows into the Jajrud River, one of the major rivers near Tehran. To reach Shakarab Waterfall, you can drive through Lashgarak and Oshan-Fasham roads. Once you arrive in Fasham, continue on to the village of Ahār.


Sangan Waterfall

Sangan Waterfall is the largest waterfall in Tehran, located northwest of the village of Sangan on the slopes of the "Pahneh Hisar" mountain. This majestic waterfall is ideal for adventure seekers. Watching the water cascade down from a height of 30 meters is truly thrilling. Interestingly, this beautiful waterfall is also listed as a national heritage site. Accessing the waterfall requires an entry fee and a walk through Bagh-Darreh. Visitors typically park their cars near the local shrine (Imamzadeh) and walk along the dirt trail. As you get closer to the waterfall, the greenery and vibrant natural beauty around you intensify.


Tizab Waterfall

Tizab Waterfall, one of Tehran’s most beautiful, is located in the lush and scenic heights north of Damavand County. The Tizab spring lies next to the waterfall and is said to have carbonated water believed to help cure various ailments. The local Tizab road is not well-paved, and conditions worsen as you proceed. Off-road vehicles are the best option for navigating this route. The mountain path to the waterfall is unpaved, but a suitable vehicle can take you relatively close. At the end of the road, you must park and continue on foot to reach the waterfall.


Twin Waterfalls (Ābshār Doqolu)

As the name suggests, the Twin Waterfalls are made up of two beautiful cascading streams that split at the point of descent. They are among the most popular waterfalls in the Shemiranat area of Tehran. Located beneath the Shirpala shelter at an altitude of 2,700 meters above sea level, the waterfalls are fed by the snow of Mount Damavand, making the water crisp and refreshing. Some sources also refer to the Twin Waterfalls as the Shirpala Waterfall. To visit, you'll need to hike a mountainous trail for about 1.5 to 2 hours. Due to the challenging path, this destination is not recommended for seniors, children, or those without adequate physical fitness.


Eigal Waterfall

Located on the eastern slope of Mount Tochal and near Tehran, Eigal Waterfall is a great weekend picnic spot for families. Beyond its indescribable beauty, it offers a view of Tochal's peak, enhancing its charm. Unlike most waterfalls, this one flows over rocks and forms a small pond beneath it. To visit the village of Eigal and its beautiful waterfall, drive along Lashgarak Road towards Fasham. At Zarbandeh Square, turn left. After passing Varjin and Kalugan, you’ll reach a roundabout, and the left path will lead you to Eigal village.


Naran Waterfall

Naran Waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Lavasanat region, in the northeastern suburbs of Tehran. Thanks to the pleasant climate and the beauty of the waterfall, it has become a popular natural destination for residents of the capital. This waterfall maintains its beauty year-round, making it worth visiting in any season. Near the waterfall, you can also explore notable historical attractions like the Gushvareh Hills and the Old Woman’s Castle (Qal’eh Pirzan). To visit Naran Waterfall, head northeast from Tehran toward the Lavasan area and continue to the village of Kond-e Olya, about 7 kilometers northeast of Lavasan.
