Saed News: Some sources estimate the village of Sangan to be over 2,000 years old, and the Sangan Waterfall is the sole reason for traveling to this village.
According to Saed News, quoting from ISNA, the journey from the village to Sangan Waterfall takes between 2 to 3 hours. It is about a one-hour drive from Tehran to Sangan. To visit this village and its unique waterfall, you need to head east for about 3 kilometers from the western side of Tehran and Karaj, on the Hemmat Highway.
In these days, when Tehran is heavily polluted and nothing can lift people's spirits like nature tourism, there is a village nestled between the Alborz Mountains and the Kon area of Tehran, which is the perfect nature getaway for the capital’s residents.
The village of Sangan is located 2,100 meters above sea level and consists of six neighborhoods: Sangan-e-Payīn, Sangan-e-Mīānī, Sangan-e-Bālā, Bāgh-Dareh, Dareh-Tak, and Sangan-e-Noo.
This region, besides the Sangan Waterfall—one of its natural attractions—also has many historical sites, one of which is the trio of Sangan Imamzadehs. According to some inscriptions found there, the village of Sangan dates back more than 500 years.
Some sources even estimate the village of Sangan to be over 2,000 years old. However, what is certain is the presence of the thousand-year-old plane tree of Sangan and the Imamzadehs in the area, which indicate the village’s long history. Each of the neighborhoods in Sangan houses an Imamzadeh, showing that life in these areas has been ongoing for centuries. One of these Imamzadehs, named Imamzadeh Aqil, is located in a village called Mazra, near Sangan, which used to be a part of the village. However, after the construction of the Tehran-North Freeway, the two villages became separated.
Another ancient plane tree can be found in the Hosseiniyeh of Sangan-e-Bālā or the Sarr neighborhood, which is likely over 500 years old. All these signs point to the long history of this village. The language and dialect of the people of Sangan also show the historical roots of this area, as they speak Tati, an ancient dialect.
