Shazdeh Garden: Iran’s Magnificent Oasis of History and Beauty

Nestled in the heart of Iran, Shazdeh Garden is not only a national monument but also a proud UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated as one of the iconic Persian Gardens. Its origins trace back to the late 13th century during the final years of the Qajar dynasty, commissioned by the ruler of Kerman and Sistan.

Spanning 5.5 hectares at 202 meters above sea level, the garden’s rectangular layout creates a captivating perspective that unfolds before visitors’ eyes. Upon entering, two striking steps reveal glimpses of the lush greenery inside, inviting exploration deeper into the garden’s serene interior.

Architectural Splendor
Shazdeh Garden features a storied structure with a thatched brick wall enclosing the mezzanine and 8 watchtowers. The pavilion, perched at the highest southwest point, anchors the garden, while a sequence of five fountains lines the path, each capable of shooting water up to 8 meters high in the pool before the pavilion.

Water and Nature in Harmony
The garden’s ingenious water system, fed by the Tigran River, brings life to every corner. Water cascades through 11 steps, forming 9 waterfalls, each flanked by rows of cypress trees. Beyond the waterfalls, a network of stairs allows visitors to wander among plane trees, cypresses, pines, fruit trees, and vibrant flower beds, immersing them in the harmonious beauty of Persian landscape design.

Shazdeh Garden stands as a testament to Iranian artistry, engineering, and nature, offering a timeless escape where history, architecture, and natural beauty converge in perfect symmetry.
