Hir Suspension Bridge is part of the Hirland Tourism Complex and one of the attractions of Ardabil Province and Hir City. This bridge is recognized as Iran’s first fully glass, curved suspension bridge.
The design and construction of the Hir Glass Bridge took two years and it was inaugurated in June 2020. Today, this amazing structure has become a major destination for recreation and tourism in Ardabil Province.
Hir is one of the scenic cities in the northwest of the country, with pleasant and cool weather in the first half of the year and summer. This area is known as Ardabil’s “garden city” due to its untouched nature and numerous cherry and sour cherry orchards.
Hirland Complex is located about 28 kilometers (35 minutes) southeast of Ardabil City, northeast of Hir City, in the Darband Hir area. The glass bridge is built over the roaring Hirchay River, connecting the two sides of Darband Valley. This bridge was designed and constructed by Iranian engineers.
Hir Suspension Bridge is 250 meters long and 1.2 meters wide. Five-layer glass panels (3 cm thick) form the bridge deck. The glass panels are connected with metal joints and the entire structure is supported by steel cables.
When crossing the Hir Bridge, observing the valley and the bridge’s sway and vibration evokes both excitement and fear in visitors. The design and components of the bridge are the reasons for these sensations. The transparent glass floor amplifies the fear of heights. The bridge’s sway is natural and does not compromise safety. To cross the bridge, visitors must wear disposable shoe covers. Hir Suspension Bridge features beautiful and eye-catching lighting.
In addition to the glass bridge, Hirland Tourism Complex offers other recreational facilities such as a swimming pool, zipline for adults and children at a height of 150 meters, adventure park, aerial bicycle, bungee jump, trampoline, thrilling amusement park for children, adventure park, rock climbing, amphitheater, and musical fountain. Facilities such as a prayer room, restrooms, open parking, and a restaurant are also available at Hirland.
