Saed News Cooking Service Report: Traditional white beet dessert, also known as honeyed beet with grape molasses, is one of the delicious and nutritious Iranian desserts that is especially popular during the winter season. Below, we will teach you how to prepare this tasty dessert.
White beet: 1 kg
Grape molasses: 1 cup
Honey: 2 tablespoons (optional)
Rose water: 2 tablespoons (optional)
Chopped walnuts: As needed (for garnish)
First, wash the beets thoroughly and peel them. Then, cut them into desired shapes (slices or cubes).
Place the beet pieces in a pot and add enough water to cover them. Put the pot on medium heat and let the beets soften, which takes about 1 to 2 hours. To save time, you can use a pressure cooker.
Once the beets are cooked, drain them, but do not discard the cooking water—you can use it for soups or stews. Place the cooked beets in a suitable container, then add the grape molasses and mix well to coat all pieces evenly. If desired, add honey and rose water at this stage.
Place the beet and syrup mixture over low heat and let it simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes until the syrup thickens and absorbs into the beets. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Once the dessert is ready, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly. Then, transfer it to serving dishes and garnish with chopped walnuts. Honeyed beet dessert can be served warm or cold.
You can make this dessert using either white or red beets.
Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of molasses and honey to your taste.
For extra flavor, you can add spices like cinnamon or cardamom.
This dessert can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days.
We hope you enjoy making and tasting this traditional and delicious dessert. Bon appétit!
